Sunday School

“Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ".

The Cathedral Sunday School is designed to teach children traditional values and their Orthodox Faith. Classes are held every Sunday under the capable direction of an experienced volunteer staff of interested adults.

The Sunday school begins with a nursery program at 40 days old, but must be accompanied by a parent. These young children are introduced to the Bible through fun activities like coloring, music and picture books and group projects during special holidays. Classes are offered for those up to 18 years old and the curriculum includes Bible study, catechism and church history.

Parents are encouraged to bring their children to classes which begin in the Church undercroft at 11:00a.m. There is a Communion breakfast once a month when the students attend the Divine Liturgy. After receiving communion children proceed to breakfast and special discussions. We are most fortunate to be blessed with bright, loving children who are enthusiastic in learning and sharing about Jesus Christ and the Orthodox faith.

Holy Communion Procedure

The Sacrament (Mysterion) of Holy Communion is the most important act in the Orthodox Church.  We receive Holy Communion during the Divine liturgy, Sundays and certain Holy Days.

PREPARATION for Holy Communion should include prayers, fasting, acts of sincere faith and Christian love.  We should ask for God's forgiveness in our prayers and seek the forgiveness of our parents, brothers, sisters, relatives and friends.  We should also forgive others if they have offended us in any way.

FASTING before Holy Communion should include abstaining from meat and dairy products.  The children's parents should guide them in this.  However on the morning of Communion no food or drink is allowed.  Spend a few minutes in contemplating the value, meaning and importance of Holy Communion.
